Traditional uses

Traditionally, horse chestnut seed extract has been used for joint pain, bladder and gastrointestinal problems, fever, and leg cramps. The extract from horse chestnut is mainly used as a dietary supplement for chronic venous insufficiency (a condition where the veins of the lower leg are unable to send blood back toward the heart), varicose veins, hemorrhoids and phlebitis (inflammation of the veins) in Europe. In general, horse chestnut extract is valued as a nutritional supplement beneficial to healthy circulatory system.
